BREAKING - Darrell Wallace Jr. will not return to the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports entry in 2021

 Reported first by Jordan Bianchi of the Athletic, it has been announced that Darrell Wallace Jr. will not be returning to the #43 Richard Petty Motorsports Entry. He notified the team of this news earlier in the week. Wallace's name has been listed as one of the biggest pieces to the silly season puzzle, and widespread news that he has at very least had meetings with Chip Ganassi Racing while looking at different job opportunities for next season. 

Wallace is the only African American driver to have completed full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series in more than one full season. Still winless, he has 3 top-5 finishes in 103 starts.

All three of NASCAR's National Touring series came into the weekend on a level playing field.  All three series were entering their Round of 8.  All three series had the same 4 tracks left in front of them.  Finally, all three series presented an opportunity to 8 drivers to go out and clinch their shot at a championship in Phoenix.  For the Truck series, that's exactly what the 8 remaining playoff drivers set out to do.  Ultimately, only one could lock up a spot in the Championship 4.  However, the playoff battle was not the only story, perhaps not even the biggest story of the day.  This was because rising star Hailie Deegan was set to make her first ever NASCAR Touring series start.  Deegan was driving the #17 Ford F150 for DGR Crosley Racing, a ride which was announced later in the race that she would be driving in the Truck Series in 2021.  The round of 8 was set to begin. The 2021-22 silly season has been another wild one thus far. The most surprising news was originally  Brad Keselowski going to Roush-Fenway Racing as the driver and co-owner of the #6 Ford. However, that quickly became the worst-kept secret in NASCAR. The real shocker came when Chip Ganassi sold all of his NASCAR assets to Trackhouse Racing.  Ross Chastain will drive a second car for Trackhouse, the #1 will transfer along with other team assets. Sticking with the Ganassi/Trackhouse deal.... While nothing has been confirmed in regards to Kurt Busch’s 2022 plans, there’s heavy speculation that he could be driving a second car for 23XI Racing. Busch himself has said his deal is “so close to being done”, though he gave no indication of where that could be.
