Playoff Preview - Tyler Reddick (w/VIDEO)

Image
Unable to join the meeting at first due to a computer/phone error, Tyler Reddick humorously joked he was glad nobody could see him. He was smiling and energetic through his entire event with the press today.  It didn't take long for him to get into the big details that make him feel like he is a true contender for the playoffs. In short, the first round of the playoffs which he states he believes will be good luck. "It’s good. The nice thing is that we’re going back to a venue — well, let me think about this. I mean, in a way we’ve been to all three of these tracks already this year, the third Bristol. Obviously a little dustier for some reason the first time we were there earlier this year. The speed we had early at this race at Darlington in the beginning of summer, if you will, was really promising to know we were that good and still have missed the mark on where our car needed to be by that much. Yeah, I’m excited for sure going into that race. But even more excited, after ...

Despite being 'King of The Road Courses', no added pressure for Chase Elliott

Image
AJ Appeal - RacingRefresh.com Years prior to him chasing his 8th road course win in the top stock car racing circuit in the nation, NASCAR's most popular driver was winning on road courses in NASCAR's truck series and the ARCA Menard's West tour. While he seems to be the favorite this weekend at Watkins Glen, Chase assured members of the media today that he felt no added pressure or confidence when competing at the right-turning New York track.  When asked if he felt like road racing would be a specialty of his at a younger age, he had this to say.  "Well I wouldn't say [that]..i mean you know I've always kind of  taken it week by week but no I didn't think just because we won the truck race (Canada) and K+N [Now ARCA Menard's West] (Sonoma) race in a row course that certainly our first win would be [on a road course]. I feel like it was kind of random really. I'm not really sure why you know...why that's been, but it's been fun. We're p...

Image
Press Release - Hendrick Motorsports  CONCORD, N.C. -- Hendrick Automotive Group, via its HendrickCars.com brand, will become the 35-race majority sponsor of Kyle Larson and the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 team in both the 2022 and 2023 NASCAR Cup Series seasons. In addition, Hendrick Motorsports has extended the driver’s contract for one year through 2023. As part of the agreement, HendrickCars.com will also sponsor Larson in all non-NASCAR events in which he competes, including branding on the driver’s helmets, gloves and firesuits. The 28-year-old native of Elk Grove, California, is a prolific dirt racer who has won 56 times since January 2020 in a variety of cars and series outside of NASCAR. In addition to Larson, HendrickCars.com is the primary sponsor of four-time NHRA champion Greg Anderson. “When we perform on the track on Sunday, we can feel the impact on Monday,” said Rick Hendrick, chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. “W...

Loganity: Why Ty Dillon Deserves Better

Image
(Photo Source: Twitter.com/NASCAR)     Last  week it was announced that Ty Dillon would be joining Gaunt Brothers Racing to attempt to make this year’s Daytona 500. My initial thoughts were that this could be a great opportunity for Dillon. After all, we all know any opportunity can lead to another, and any opportunity in NASCAR to race in the Daytona 500 is huge. We all know anyone has a chance at Daytona. I’m also a big fan of the “little guy”. Gaunt Brothers Racing is absolutely that. They’re a Toyota team with no factory support. Daniel Suarez drove for Gaunt Brothers Racing last season and you may remember that they failed to qualify for the Daytona 500. They did qualify and compete in the remaining 35 races last year. This season the team is looking to take a step back. Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press has reported they're looking to run 10 races this season.  I’m hopeful that means that Ty Dillon can make the most of Daytona and drive however many races Gau...

Loganity: "The King" and " That Jones Boy" A Bright Future Or A Last Stand?

Image
(Photo Source: Twitter.com/Erik_Jones) As we all know this silly season has been unprecedented in a flurry of twists and turns, not unlike a road course. Perhaps the most surprising move of the Silly season has been Erik Jones heading to the iconic 43 to drive for Richard Petty Motorsports. It certainly wasn’t a major shock when it was announced Jones wouldn’t be returning to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2021. When you’re teammates of 2 cup champions still in their primes and a 3 time Daytona 500 winner who has as many Cup wins as Bill Eliott it’s not hard to figure out who the replaceable driver is. Of course, we have to factor in the success of the man who is replacing Jones, Christopher Bell. Bell won the Truck Series Championship in 2017. He would go on to win 16 Xfinity series races with 46 top tens. He drove in the Cup Series this season for Levine Family Racing where he finished 20th in points, highlighted by 2 top 5’s and 7 top 10’s. None of this is meant as a knock on Jones. He’s had ...

What will be the impact of offseason changes at Hendrick Motorsports

Image
What will be the impact of the big changes at Hendrick Motorsports? A look at what we can expect to see from Hendrick Motorsports in 2021 and beyond. Rick Hendrick has never been afraid of change, but it’s hard to imagine an offseason when his race teams have gone through more changes than this offseason.   Jimmie Johnson, a seven-time champion and certainly one of the greatest drivers of all time has retired, Chad Knaus, the only crew chief that’s never missed the NASCAR playoffs will no longer be on top of the pit box, and some dirt-track hotshot named Larson is climbing behind the wheel of the iconic No. 5 car in 2021.   Oh, and let’s not forget that the guys at Hendrick will be expanding their trophy case in the offseason to make room Chase Elliott’s championship trophy.   With everything going on, what can we expect from Hendrick Motorsports (HMS) in 2021 and beyond? Let’s start with the promotion of Chad Knaus.   That’s right, his new role is conside...

Spire Motorsports Announces Corey LaJoie as Driver of New #7 Chevrolet Team

Image
One of NASCAR's remaining free agents now has a ride. Third generation driver Corey LaJoie and Spire Motorsports announced yesterday that the 29 year old would be behind the wheel of their newly announced #7 team for both the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Spire had already been expected to announce a full-time driver for their #77 Chevrolet team. No announcement has been made in regards to the future of that car.  LaJoie has raced in NASCAR's Cup Series since 2014 and has earned 3 top 10 finishes in 129 career starts. All of those came in the #32 Ford for Go Fas Racing, which shut down full-time operation at the end of the 2020 season for a smaller, part-time schedule. Spire states that their goal is to compete, but development on their 2022 efforts are specifically focused on the next-gen car. Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports tweeted that Spire will purchase vehicles from both Chip Ganassi Racing and Hendrick Motorsports to ensure they have a fleet large enough to support the addition o...

Kyle Larson to drive for Hendrick Motorsports in 2021 - Team Brings Back #5

Image
Kyle Larson will become the driver of a Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2021. This fills a vacancy left by 7 time Champion Jimmie Johnson. The successful dirt racer turned stock car driver is currently serving an indefinite suspension from NASCAR and a termination from Chip Ganassi Racing after the use of a racial slur during a broadcasted video game event earlier this year. The team announced today that they will transition the number 88 to number 5 moving forward.  [It was announced in October that Alex Bowman will officially replace Jimmie Johnson, driver of the #48 for the last 19 seasons at Hendrick beginning in 2021. Jimmie was said to have a large influence in the successor to the famed #48. Longtime Hendrick Motorsports sponsor Ally Bank will stay with the #48 team. ] Larson who was recently reinstated by NASCAR has completed the proper sensitivity training that is needed to return to his stock car career. He returned to his dirt racing past this summer and has won a hist...

Image

He will join the organization in mid-November. The 36-year-old Fugle is one of the most successful crew chiefs at the NASCAR national series level. He has won two driver championships and five owner titles in the Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series. As a crew chief for Kyle Busch Motorsports since 2013, he has recorded 28 truck victories, which tie him for the second-most in series history. Fugle will replace current No. 24 crew chief Chad Knaus,  who was recently named Hendrick Motorsports’ vice president of competition  effective at the completion of the 2020 racing season. “We’re pleased to welcome Rudy,” said Jeff Andrews, general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “His teams have consistently performed at a championship level for many years. We believe he’s an excellent fit for ...

Xfinity Race Review: Drive for the Cure 250

It was elimination Saturday for the NASCAR Xfinity Series.  As if that pressure wasn't high enough, drivers had to take on the Charlotte Roval, a track that had only seen Xfinity competition twice prior to this event.  With all the playoff drama, one would assume it would be the primary story of the afternoon.  However, mother nature proved to be the driving factor of Saturday's race.  It was a race full of twists, turns, slipping, and sliding.  At the end of the day, eight drivers move on with hope that they will hoist the championship trophy in Phoenix.  For four others, their championship hopes were dashed.  The race at the Roval started as calmly as it possibly could've, given the circumstances.  Prior to the race, NASCAR had stated that the track was in "dry" conditions.  However, NASCAR could deem the track "wet" at any point in the race if they felt led to do so.  Teams had 2 sets of rain tires, but it was the crew chief's call wh...

Alex Bowman to drive #48 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports in 2021 Season

Image
NASCAR veteran Alex Bowman will replace 7-time champion Jimmie Johnson at the wheel of the #48 Chevrolet in the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Season. Bowman, who has 2 career NASCAR Cup Series victories has driven the #88 Chevrolet for the team since the retirement of Dale Earnhardt Jr. at the end of the 2017 season.  The #88 and #48 teams work out of the same shop on the Hendrick property. While this will appear on track as a different setup, the only difference on paper is the sponsor and number change. Ally Financial is expected to be on the car for all 36 points races in 2021.  The new driver for the remaining team at Hendrick Motorsports has not been announced at this time, but wide speculation is that suspended competitor Kyle Larson will join the team in 2021 behind the wheel of a new number. Stay with Racing Refresh for more details as that story develops.

NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Trucks Review: Chevrolet Silverado 250

Image
It was typical Talladega!  That's the best way to describe this weekends truck race.  The only added pressure the trucks had is that it was a playoff cutoff race.  Ten drivers went into Talladega with a shot to win a championship, but only eight of them left with that same chance.  The action was wild.  The race was awesome.  It was everything a fan should expect when you combine the wild nature of Talladega, and the competitive nature of the NASCAR Truck series. Sheldon Creed led the field to the green flag with Austin Hill right beside him.  Grant Enfinger had trouble early as a tire went down for him on the left rear.  This did not bring out the caution ,though, which put Enfinger multiple laps down as his team fixed the truck.  The first major event of the day happened as a result of those two battling up front with 8 laps to go in the stage.  Hill had a charge to the front and Creed tried to block the #16.  The two made c...

Chad Knaus promoted to executive management position at Hendrick Motorsports

Image
The winningest crew chief of the modern era will no longer be on top of a pit-box beginning with the 2021 season. He received a promotion to an executive position with Hendrick Motorsports as Vice President of Competition. He will oversee all crew chiefs , pit chiefs, engineering teams , fabrication teams , assembly , and competition staff. No announcement has been made in regards to who will replace Knaus as the leader of the #24 Chevrolet team. In his career as a NASCAR Cup Series Crew Chief , Knaus has won 82 races , 7 cup series championships (all with Jimmie Johnson) , and his drivers have made the playoffs every year since the original playoff 'chase' format back in 2004.

Hendrick Motorsports fined $100,000 after violating wind-tunnel time regulations.

Image
Several media outlets are reporting that Hendrick Motorsports has been penalized a $00k and docked a total of 10 of their allotted hours for win tunnel testing in the 2021 season after exceeding their allowance of 70 hours in 2020 season. Per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, the Chevrolet power-house team reported their own overage which was said to be my just minutes over 70 hours in total. No championship points or suspensions were announced by NASCAR in regards to this. Hendrick Motorsports currently has the drivers of Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman in the 2020 championship playoffs; both drivers advanced into the round of 12 after last week's race at Bristol.

BREAKING : Ross Chastain to #42 , Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet in 2021

Image
(Photo Source : Twitter.com/RossChastain) NASCAR driver Ross Chastain has finally landed with the #42 Chevrolet, driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. He will drive the #42 car in the cup series for the entire 2021 Cup Series schedule. The Alva, Florida watermelon farmer was believed to be one of Ganassi's long-term driver choices until their Xfinity sponsor DC Solar ran into legal trouble in 2018 and was no longer affiliated with the team. In three races with Chip Ganassi Racing at the Xfinity level, Chastain has a win, a third, and a fifth place finish.  Since 2017, Chastain has 1 top 10 in 79 career cup series starts. He has driven for Roush-Fenway Racing and Spire Motorsports in 2020's Cup campaign and is known for heavy participation across all three of the national touring series. An announcement regarding the team's future will be made today that he will replace Matt Kenseth behind the wheel of the #42 for the 2021 season. The #42 became vacant this season after Kyle La...
