NTT IndyCar Series Race Preview: Texas Doubleheader

Image
Two races into the season, and we have seen dominating performances from the likes of Colton Herta and Alex Palou to open up the NTT IndyCar Series season. Now the series heads to the first oval race of the season, as the series heads to Texas Motor Speedway for a weekend doubleheader Saturday and Sunday night.      Race History:  The IndyCar series has been coming to the lightning fast 1.5 mile quad-oval since it opened back in 1997. In that inaugural race, Billy Boat crossed the line first, but the win was awarded to Arie Luyendyk after a timing and scoring error the next day. There are five active drivers that have won at Texas in the field this weekend. Scott Dixon won last time the series made its way into the Lone Star State. Winners also include Tony Kanaan, Will Power, Joesf Newgarden, Ed Carpenter, and Graham Rahal. Kenny Brack holds the qualifying record that was set in 2001, with a time of 22.854 seconds. Or an average speed of 233.447 miles per hour.     Track Facts:  Tex

When asked about the flip he told Jamie Little of Fox NASCAR  "I'm one hit away from the same situation Ryan Newman just went through". One of the favou

NTT IndyCar Series Race Review: Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

Image
After setting fast times all week through practice and qualifying, it is a no brainier with hindsight the young twenty-one-year-old Colton Herta would set the world on fire this past weekend at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, as he led a IndyCar record 97 laps of the 100 lap marathon.     Herta, who won the P1 award on Saturday afternoon, got off to a fast start as he took his Bainbridge Honda to an early two-second lead over the young an upcoming talent in the series Jack Harvey. Sixteen laps would quickly pass until we had our first caution of the day, as Jimmie Johnson locked up the brakes heading into Turn 13 and slid off the racing surface, in which time we went one lap down as Johnson could not safely rejoin the track, as the first caution would come out as Herta was in turn six working lap seventeen.       At the one-quarter mark of the race, your top five were Herta, Harvey, Newgarden, Pagenaud, and Bourdais.     Working lap thirty-seven, Herta made his first stop of

(Tampa Bay Times)           The second round of the 2021 NTT IndyCar Series season took place Sunday afternoon for The Grand Prix of St. Petersburg where we saw Colton Herta take the dominating victory. Herta, who started on pole position, led 97 laps in rout to his first win of the season and his fourth win of his career.     Odds on favorite of the day, Josef Newgarden made the battle closer as the race came down to 15 to go, but with him being on the alternate red tires, lost grip and speed for the final laps as Herta pulled away with a margin of victory of 2.49 seconds.      Jimmie Johnson had a rough day on the slick street course as he spun once late in the race and got into the tire barrier between turns 13 and 14. He finished 22nd, five laps down. Top 5 : 1st: Herta 2nd: Newgarden 3rd: Pagenaud  4th: Harvey  5th: Dixon Notables: 8th: Power 17th: Palou 18th: Hinchcliff 19th: O'War

We’re officially 1/4 of the way through the 2021 season, and while there may be some underperforming drivers, it might still be too soon to overreact.  A prime example is the hate being thrown at Denny Hamlin for not having won yet.  Can Hamlin’s 2021 season be classified as troubling?  He’s finished every race on the lead lap, his worst finish is 11 th , he has already built up an 81-point lead in the standings, and he’s got a better average finish through the first 9 races than Kevin Harvick did in 2020.  The only thing missing is the ever-elusive P1.  Are we ready to believe that he won’t score a win in any of the 17 remaining regular season races?  Let’s talk again in 10 weeks if he still hasn’t won.  Until then, Hamlin shouldn’t be discounted as a real championship threat.   This weekend, the Cup Series makes its way to Talladega Superspeedway for the Geico 500.  Talladega is the longest oval on the NASCAR circuit, at 2.66 miles long.  The inaugural race in 1969 was a bit
