StatChat - NASCAR Cup Series @ Homestead-Miami

Two races in, and we have some trends to analyze!  Take some of this analysis with a grain of salt, as there isn’t a whole lot of data yet in 2021.  However, we’re going to give it a try anyway.  This weekend, NASCAR returns to Florida for a trip to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Dixie Vodka 400.  Let’s have a look at some data:   Homestead-Miami Speedway is a 1.5-mile oval that opened in 1995.  From 2002 to 2019, it hosted NASCAR’s final race of the season – this was changed to Phoenix last year.  With two wild-card races (in a super speedway and road course) to start the year, many see this as the first time we’ll be able to take stock of who has a legitimate shot to win it all this year.   The race will be 267 laps (for a total of 400.5 miles), with stage breaks occurring at 80 – 160 – 267.  The fuel window is approximately 62-66 laps.   NASCAR has run 752.70 miles so far this year, with only 9 cars having run all of them.   Top 5 Career Average Finishers at Homestea

McDowell Wins, Daytona 500 Review, and A Reflection on Speedweeks - AJ's Thoughts

Image
(Photo Credit : Review Journal of Las Vegas) McDowell Wins BIG As much as I love American stock car racing, there are races that are so bland we may never mention them again in a social setting. Other events stand out in our hearts and we talk about them every chance we get. This year's running of the 'Great American Race' is a story that we will always remember.  Expect to see videos of McDowell cheering with the fans at the start finish line, and the wild last lap of the 2021 Daytona 500 forever.  He's done it. It took him a long time, but Michael McDowell has won at NASCAR's greatest stage. While the race itself is being labeled as an underdog win, a small amount of research is all it takes to realize that the pieces have been there for the #34 team to get this win for some time now. Ford has shown consistent speed on the large tracks for years. Front Row Motorsports has won and recorded several top 5's at Daytona and Talladega in the current generation car

2 Days 'Til Daytona - Today's Featured Driver: Chase Elliott

Image
In case you missed it , StatChat is counting down the days ‘til the 2021 Daytona 500.  Every two days, we will have a new article featuring one of the Top 30 Drivers of 2020.    1 st Place – Chase Elliott – 5040 pts   By the Numbers:   4.36 Difference in Average Finish  – Whether you see this as a sign of a flawed playoff system, or you believe it’s important for the Champion to peak at the right time, it certainly is an interesting wrinkle that Chase Elliott’s Average Finish was 4.36 spots worse than Kevin Harvick’s.  This is the same Harvick that didn’t even make the Round of 4.  Chase Elliott put together an impressive playoff performance in 2020, including back-to-back wins at the final 2 races to clinch the Championship, but Kevin Harvick’s season was the better one, overall.   2 nd Most Laps Led – Chase Elliott led a total of 1,213 laps in 2020.  This amounted to 2 nd best of all drivers, just behind (you guessed it!) Kevin Harvick, who finished with 1,531.
