StatChat - NASCAR Cup Series @ Homestead-Miami

Two races in, and we have some trends to analyze!  Take some of this analysis with a grain of salt, as there isn’t a whole lot of data yet in 2021.  However, we’re going to give it a try anyway.  This weekend, NASCAR returns to Florida for a trip to Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Dixie Vodka 400.  Let’s have a look at some data:

Homestead-Miami Speedway is a 1.5-mile oval that opened in 1995.  From 2002 to 2019, it hosted NASCAR’s final race of the season – this was changed to Phoenix last year.  With two wild-card races (in a super speedway and road course) to start the year, many see this as the first time we’ll be able to take stock of who has a legitimate shot to win it all this year.

The race will be 267 laps (for a total of 400.5 miles), with stage breaks occurring at 80 – 160 – 267.  The fuel window is approximately 62-66 laps.

NASCAR has run 752.70 miles so far this year, with only 9 cars having run all of them.
