Cup Series Talladega Race Review

    Denny Hamlin wins a wild one in Talladega. In one of the most controversial finishes in NASCAR history, the double yellow line played a major impact in the finish of another Talladega race.  The entire race was sloppy in the best way possible, as the race set a new track record of 13 cautions, and only two playoff drivers finished in the top 10.     Stage 1 featured one of the messiest starts to a race I have ever seen. NASCAR had planned for a competition caution on lap 25, but NASCAR had three cautions before the competition caution.  The early race wrecks lead playoff favorites Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick to ride around in the back waiting. A late stage incident involving Alex Bowman and Aric Almirola gifted Chris Buescher the stage win.      Stage 2 featured a scary wreck where Kurt Busch went airnorn, riding on the hood of Cole Custer's car. 56 Days 'Til Daytona - Today's Featured Driver: Matt Kenseth

In case you missed it , StatChat is counting down the days ‘til the 2021 Daytona 500.  Every two days, we will have a new article featuring one of the Top 30 Drivers of 2020.    28 th Place – Matt Kenseth – 521 pts   By the Numbers:   20 seasons – 2020 was Matt Kenseth’s 20 th (nearly) full-time season as a Cup Series driver.  It seems time has not been friendly to Matt, as this was also his worst season by average finish.   697 races – Kenseth will finish just 3 races shy of 700 for his career, as he has decided 2020 will be his last year of full-time racing.  Only 17 drivers in NASCAR history have achieved over 700 starts.   6.81 Average Finish – Matt Kenseth’s average finish of 21.38 in 2020 was 6.81 points worse than his career average.  Since he has so many starts, his year only caused his average to increase by 0.32 points.   16 th Race – 2020’s 16 th race of the year was the Big Machine Hand Sanit...

Update : Richard Petty Motorsports Not Switching Manufacturers in 2021

  There had been rumors for about a month that the Richard Petty Motorsports #43 entry may be switching to Toyota in the off-season. After the closure of Leavine Family Racing at the end of the 2020 season, Toyota will have lost 6 full-time Cup Series teams since 2015. (3 from Michael Waltrip Racing, 2 from Furniture Row, 1 from Leavine) Speculation that Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan may be attached to a new investment backed by Toyota swirled around at first, but more recent gossip is that it may be a Denny Hamlin investment without others.  It has now been reported by Bob Pockrass that Richard Petty Motorsports will not be switching manufacturers in 2021. No announcement from the team has been made in regards to who their driver may be after the departure of Darrell Wallace Jr., but we now know the team will remain with Chevrolet.
