Chase Elliott Stormed his way from a top 10 starting spot to show why he is the King of road racing in the NASCAR Cup series. Notching his first win of the season and 12th of his career, the victory was met not without obstacles as tough competition and rain played a huge factor during the event. From teammates to rookies and underdogs there were no shortage of challengers for the 9 team.

Being a part of several new race tracks on the 2021 schedule, it was only fitting for someone with such a successful resume on road courses to excel and win at this high speed track. There were quite of few surprises in this race as Tyler Reddick in his sophomore captured not only his first career pole but also the first pole at a road course for Richard Childress Racing since Dale Earnhardt in 1996. Austin Cindric, who is no stranger to road course success, led a lot of laps in the first half of the race and looked to be a contender for the win. As every road course seems to be a equalizer and brings out a drivers pure talent, guys like Michael McDowell and Corey Lajoie got to showcase what they can do as both would run in the top 5 in the last half of the race.

In most cases, strategy would play a big role in races where weather would have a big effect on it, but because it would rain all day, the only thing effected was visibility, causing two major wrecks involving Martin Truex Jr, McDowell, Cole Custer, Bubba Wallace and Kevin Harvick. Many drivers ran into issues with hydroplaning. At the end of the day though, Elliott was in the right place at the right time, passing Kyle Larson before the rain picked up and he was running out of fuel with 14 laps to go when the race was called.
