30 Second Read: Jockey Made In America 250

Chase Elliott claimed his second victory of the year and seventh career road course win in his career at Road America. The reigning champion seems to have a knack for solving these new road courses as he had won COTA weeks prior for his first win of this season. This win came with a strong showing as he would lead 24 of the 62 lap scheduled race, Elliott would never lose sight of the front of the pack.

With this being another new track on the schedule, teams quickly learned how tough this place can be on equipment as Daniel Suarez would have power troubles during the early laps of stage one bringing out the first caution of the race. In hot race conditions, many drivers including AJ Allmendinger had issues with their helmets in keeping them cool and hydrated. The 78 car of Kyle Tilley would have problems as well as he had run off course into the sand though the caution did not wave, the first stage would end under green as William Byron wins stage one.

Martin Truex Jr and Matt Dibenedetto lead the field to the start of stage two but it wasn't long before Austin Cindric would take the leading diving into turn one. Cindric would run into issues with his right front tire as he would spin out in third place but the race would stay green. In the closing laps of the stage two Corey Lajoie would spin and as green flag pit stops would take place after six laps to go, Tyler Reddick would take over the lead and win his second career stage win!.

Stage three saw Dibenedetto put on what some would consider his best showing as he would restart third behind Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott and would take the lead from Busch and lead 10 laps until eventual race winner Elliott would take the lead with 25 to go and lead 24 laps for the win.

This win at Road America marks the seventh career road course win for Chase Elliott, who leads all active drivers in road course wins and is third all time to Tony Stewart and Jeff Gordon.

All three of NASCAR's National Touring series came into the weekend on a level playing field.  All three series were entering their Round of 8.  All three series had the same 4 tracks left in front of them.  Finally, all three series presented an opportunity to 8 drivers to go out and clinch their shot at a championship in Phoenix.  For the Truck series, that's exactly what the 8 remaining playoff drivers set out to do.  Ultimately, only one could lock up a spot in the Championship 4.  However, the playoff battle was not the only story, perhaps not even the biggest story of the day.  This was because rising star Hailie Deegan was set to make her first ever NASCAR Touring series start.  Deegan was driving the #17 Ford F150 for DGR Crosley Racing, a ride which was announced later in the race that she would be driving in the Truck Series in 2021.  The round of 8 was set to begin. And Then There Were Four - StatChat's Guide to Each Playoff Driver

Become a Patron!   After the dust settled at Martinsville, four championship contenders remained:  Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, and Martin Truex Jr.  Depending on how this weekend’s finale at Phoenix goes, there truly is a chance for each of them.  In typical StatChat style, we’ll dive into the numbers to make the case for each driver.   Kyle Larson – Pros   Kyle Larson might just be the obvious favourite.  His 9 wins on the year (so far) lead the Cup Series by a long shot.  He has also been in the fastest car at Hendrick Motorsports, who have dominated this year as well.  Hendrick cars have accounted for 16 wins (Joe Gibbs Racing only has 9).    He hasn’t even needed to always be in the fastest car.  Before finishing 7 th at the Spring Phoenix race, Larson was the driver of the Chip Ganassi #42.  The car was certainly not a backmarker by any means, but the team was nowhere near as competitive as Larson’s #5 Hendrick Chevrolet has been in 2021.  In his four
