Notching his first win of the season and 12th of his career, the victory was met not without obstacles as tough competition and rain played a huge factor during the event. From teammates to rookies and underdogs there were no shortage of challengers for the 9 team. Being a part of several new race tracks on the 2021 schedule, it was only fitting for someone with such a successful resume on road courses to excel and win at this high speed track. There were quite of few surprises in this race as Tyler Reddick...

30-Second Read: Helio joins the four-timers club with Indianapolis 500 win

Image
Helio Castroneves made history by joining A.J. Foyt, Al Unser Sr, and Rick Mears by winning the Indianapolis 500 four times. Castroneves lead the race seven times throughout the 500-mile race. His last time he took the lead was by passing young Alex Palou going into turn one on lap 199. Meyer-Shank Racing also took their first IndyCar Series win.     The only other driver in contention all day was Connor Daly, who led a race high 40 laps, but damage from a loose tire that fell off Graham Rahal's car impacted him on the front wing, the team did not change the front wing and Daly went on to finish in 13th place. Rahal was in contention late in the race by setting himself up on fuel strategy. On his out lap from a pit stop, his left rear tire fell off, and he careened into the outside wall. Top 5: 1st: Helio Castroneves  2nd: Alex Palou 3rd: Simon Pagenaud 4th: Pato O'Ward 5th: Ed Carpenter Notable Finishers:...

StatChat - NASCAR Cup Series @ Charlotte

Image
Chase Elliott may not have been complaining about the weather in victory lane last weekend, but the NASCAR Cup Series will hope for some clearer skies this Sunday as they tackle Charlotte Motor Speedway.    Compared to last year’s field, we already have 3 new drivers locked into playoff spots this year (Larson, Bell, McDowell), and they may not be the only 3 to make it after missing the playoffs last year.  Chase Elliott’s win last weekend didn’t do much to upset the status quo, as he was expected to make the playoffs.  However, bubble drivers Matt DiBenedetto and Kurt Busch (both playoff drivers in 2020) are currently on the outside looking in.  The struggling Stewart-Haas drivers, Cole Custer and Aric Almirola, will likely need a win to get back in, as their point totals are nearing ‘too far’ territory. Chris Buescher and Tyler Reddick both missed the playoffs last year, but are currently in on points.  Each of them will be trying to make the play...

Welcome to our NASCAR Cup Series Projections page.  The Playoff Forecast is where you will find the probability of each 2021 charter making the playoffs, their chances of advancing to future rounds, and also their odds of winning the Championship.    Projections are calculated by simulating the 2021 Cup Series schedule 50,000 times, using a top-secret predictive formula that is based on 3 important factors: Driver History @ Each Track, Driver Recent Overall History, and Team Performance.   This page will be updated every week, incorporating each week’s real results to (ideally) make the formula more accurate.  Keep checking back to see how your favorite driver’s odds change from week to week!   *note – As 2021 is this project’s first season, some of the underlying formulas and data were tweaked after race 10 in order to better reflect the parity in the NASCAR Cup Series.   Forecast – After Race 14     Projected Winner of...

NASCAR Drivers In The Indianapolis 500

Image
With the Indianapolis 500 this weekend it got the NASCAR fan in me thinking. Which NASCAR drivers would I like to see in the Indy 500. The quick answer is all of them, but I made a list of my top 5 picks and an honorable mention. Honorable Mention- Joey Logano... Joey Logano makes this list for three reasons. The first being his thrilling driving style, and aggressive nature. Logano for better or for worse is a true star of the show type of driver and NASCAR fans would watch that. The second reason is the fans perception of Logano. There’s only a few people who are truly in the middle with their opinions of Logano his polarizing nature would be a massive draw. The third reason is the likeliness he could run it although not much if any has been reported on Logano’s interest driving for Roger Penske who owns one of the most historic teams in Indycar, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Indycar Series Joey could easily find a competitive ride. 5th- Alex Bowman- This one might be a bi...
