Race Review: Xfinity Series Call 811 Before You Dig 200

No such thing as a championship hangover as Austin Cindric continues his winning ways dominating the Call 811 Before You Dig 200, leading 119 out of the 200 lap event at Phoenix Raceway. This was a new record high at the one mile track for laps led. There was some strong competition to contend for the win all race long including rookie Josh Berry. Berry, Daniel Hemric and Brandon Jones, but Cindric held off all threats.

Joe Gibbs Racing had a good day turned sour as Ty Gibbs was their highest finishing driver behind race winner Cindric, Harrison Burton finished a respectable 12th and their teammate Daniel Hemric ended his day 23rd. Brandon Jones recorded a DNF placing 33rd despite a strong runs throughout the day.

JR Motorsports' slow start continued... Engine issues caused the car of Noah Gragson to burst into flames ending his day.

The PJ1 compound used at Phoenix seemed to produce close competition between drivers. The unfortunate side of this compound during the race was the excess rubber and dirt on the outside groove which made cars lose grip on exit. Similar outcomes have occurred at Martinsville, Bristol and Dover.

Austin Cindric has once again become the favourite early in the 2021 season for the Xfinity championship. This is his second win of the season. Up next is Atlanta Motor Speedway March 20th.
