StatChat - NASCAR Cup Series @ Richmond

This Sunday’s race is the 2021 schedule’s “Turn 1” – we will officially be 25% of the way through the season.  Last week, Martin Truex Jr. bucked the trend and became our first two-time winner of the season at Martinsville.  While it was fun to have a new one each week, we were never going to have 36 different winners.  There are, however, still some real contenders who have not won a race yet this year.    Denny Hamlin has put together an impressive start, but that first-place finish has eluded him so far.  Last year, Kevin Harvick had a win, a 2 nd , a 3 rd , and two 5 th place finishes through the first 8 races on his way to 9 total wins.  Defending champion Chase Elliott has two 2 nd -place finishes already this year, but has also matched that with two finishes outside of the top-20 (including a DNF at Atlanta).  Throw in Brad Keselowski, the Busch brothers, and Alex Bowman, and you’ve got a long line of drivers itching to get their fi...

The Playoff Forecast - Week 9

Image
Welcome to our NASCAR Cup Series Projections page.  The Playoff Forecast is where you will find the probability of each 2021 charter making the playoffs, their chances of advancing to future rounds, and also their odds of winning the Championship.    Projections are calculated by simulating the 2021 Cup Series schedule 50,000 times, using a top-secret predictive formula that is based on 3 important factors: Driver History @ Each Track, Driver Recent Overall History, and Team Performance.   This page will be updated every week, incorporating each week’s real results to (ideally) make the formula more accurate.  Keep checking back to see how your favorite driver’s odds change from week to week!     Forecast – After Race 8     Projected Winner of the Toyota Owners 400 @ Richmond

30 Second Read: Brad Keselowski wins after leading 192 of 400 laps at Richmond.

( Photo Source : Twitter.com/Team_Penske ) Brad Keselowski's #2 Alliance Parts Team Penske Ford finished the evening in victory lane after leading nearly half of the scheduled 400 laps on Richmond's .75 mile oval. Pre-race favorite Martin Truex Jr. was not as fortunate, finishing 2.568 seconds behind in second place. Pole sitter Kevin Harvick finished 7th.  Every caution in Saturday night's event was predetermined. There was one competition caution, and a caution at the end of the first and second stage of the event. No wrecks or debris caused the race to break.   The win tonight is Brad's fourth of the 2020 season, second at Richmond Raceway, and 34th career win in the NASCAR Cup Series. With the win, his team has now advanced into the next round of NASCAR's playoffs. (UPDATE) - Post-race inspection is complete. The win is official. Top 5 :  1. Brad Keselowski 2. Martin Truex Jr. 3. Joey Logano 4. Austin Dillon 5. Chase Elliott Notables 6. Kyle Busch 7. Kevin...

Kyle Busch's #18 car fails twice during pre-race inspection.

Image
Two time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch has his work cut out for him this weekend at Richmond. The 6 time Richmond Raceway winner has yet to finish in first in his 2020 campaign, and the opportunity just became a little more challenging for Saturday's event in Virginia. His Mars Brands Toyota failed the scanning inspection system on two separate attempts and he will start the race from the rear of the field as punishment. The #18 team also failed post race inspection a week ago today at Darlington's Southern 500.
