StatChat Presents: Countdown to Daytona: By the Numbers

 

As any NASCAR fan knows, the worst part of the year comes right after the championship race, as we anxiously wait for racing to come back. 2020 has been the world’s longest year, and while we here at Racing Refresh can’t make February 2021 come any quicker, we can help you pass the time with a new StatChat feature!

 

December 16th marks 60 days until the start of the Daytona 500, so StatChat proudly presents the “StatChat Countdown to Daytona: By the Numbers.” We’ll bring you a new article every 2 days, counting down the Top 30 from the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Season.  Each article will have a variety of noteworthy numbers, statistical breakdown, and also some random fun facts to get you geared up for Daytona 2021.

 

The Top 30 have been determined by their points finish in 2020, which means that 30th place driver Corey LaJoie will start us off on December 16th, and then every second day a new driver will be featured until we reach Chase Elliott, 2020 Cup Series Champ, 2 days before the Daytona 500 on February 14th, 2021.

 

Make sure you come back and visit every two days to stay up-to-date on the “StatChat Countdown to Daytona: By the Numbers.”

NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Review: Clean Harbors 200

All three of NASCAR's National Touring series came into the weekend on a level playing field.  All three series were entering their Round of 8.  All three series had the same 4 tracks left in front of them.  Finally, all three series presented an opportunity to 8 drivers to go out and clinch their shot at a championship in Phoenix.  For the Truck series, that's exactly what the 8 remaining playoff drivers set out to do.  Ultimately, only one could lock up a spot in the Championship 4.  However, the playoff battle was not the only story, perhaps not even the biggest story of the day.  This was because rising star Hailie Deegan was set to make her first ever NASCAR Touring series start.  Deegan was driving the #17 Ford F150 for DGR Crosley Racing, a ride which was announced later in the race that she would be driving in the Truck Series in 2021.  The round of 8 was set to begin. Loganity: Why Ryan Newman Should Accept a Part-Time Ride with Roush Fenway Racing Next Season

The 2021-22 silly season has been another wild one thus far. The most surprising news was originally  Brad Keselowski going to Roush-Fenway Racing as the driver and co-owner of the #6 Ford. However, that quickly became the worst-kept secret in NASCAR. The real shocker came when Chip Ganassi sold all of his NASCAR assets to Trackhouse Racing.  Ross Chastain will drive a second car for Trackhouse, the #1 will transfer along with other team assets. Sticking with the Ganassi/Trackhouse deal.... While nothing has been confirmed in regards to Kurt Busch’s 2022 plans, there’s heavy speculation that he could be driving a second car for 23XI Racing. Busch himself has said his deal is “so close to being done”, though he gave no indication of where that could be. Matt DiBenedetto is also a free agent after it was announced that Harrison Burton would be taking over the iconic Wood Brothers #21 Ford ride next season.
