Image
Become a Patron! (Photo Source : Twitter.com/RPMotorsports) With the Southern 500 now in the rear-view mirror, the NASCAR Playoffs are officially in full swing! There’s a different layer of excitement when it comes to the final 10 races of every NASCAR season; that is when the championship truly is on the line. Sixteen drivers are chasing a title and looking to live forever in the annals of NASCAR history. However, every year I can’t help but think “What are the non-playoff drivers chasing?” This article talks about 5 non-playoff storylines you should have your eye on. (Photo Source : Twitter.com/QuakerState) 1. Can Matt DiBenedetto get the 100th win for Wood Brothers Racing?   Let’s be honest, both team and driver need a win. The man affectionately known as Matty D is beloved by fans as an underdog. After Levine Family Racing announced it was replacing DiBenedetto with Christopher Bell in 2020 the narrative that Matt DiBenedetto is fighting for his Cup career became water co...

Playoff Preview - Brad Keselowski (w/VIDEO)

Image
Brad Keselowski entered the playoff media availability with his trademark calm demeanor and a smile. His face was low, and he was sitting back comfortably in his chair with Apple Airpods in his ears as members of NASCAR's media interviewed him about his playoff chances.  He was confident in his season and remained loyal to Team Penske. Despite having only one win combined between himself and previous cup champion and teammate Joey Logano in 2021, their younger teammate Ryan Blaney has been a three time winner this season. Brad emphasized his support of Blaney, stating ''He is on a wave of momentum and I am happy for him." He continued. “No, it doesn’t particularly stand out to me.  I’m happy for him.  I think Ryan has done an excellent job of putting himself in good positions and then executing around that.  He’s certainly riding a wave of momentum that I think everyone should be proud of.  I’m happy for him, so I don’t know if it particularly impacts me at all....

After one of the most miraculous finishes in NASCAR's 2021 Xfinity tour, the NASCAR Cup Series raced at Daytona on Saturday night under the lights. The summer classic held it's own in the evening tv and broadcast quality and will be remembered as one of the most historic events in NASCAR history. The race was dominated by 'the usuals' with reigning champion Chase Elliott winning in stage #1.  Stage 1 Results @DAYTONA : 1. @chaseelliott 2. @dennyhamlin 3. @KyleBusch 4. @RossChastain 5. @MartinTruex_Jr 6. @austindillon3 7. @CoreyLaJoie 8. @joeylogano 9. @RyanPreece_ 10. @Chris_Buescher #NASCAR #RacingRefresh #StatChat @RacingRefresh #CokeZeroSugar400 — StatChat - Racing Refresh (@StatChat_RR) August 29, 2021 Former champ Joey Logano won stage #2. Austin Cindric to Attempt 2021 Daytona 500

Image
Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports broke the news this morning that NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Austin Cindric is expected to attempt to qualify for the 2021 Daytona 500 under the Team Penske banner. According to the announcement, the car will be numbered 33 and is likely to include additional races for the young driver from Columbus, Ohio. It was announced earlier this year that Cindric would take over for Matt Dibenedetto in the #21 Ford Mustang in 2022 season as a full-time rookie.  No details on sponsorship were available at the time of the post. Miles Stanley will be the crew chief.

Loganity: "The King" and " That Jones Boy" A Bright Future Or A Last Stand?

Image
(Photo Source: Twitter.com/Erik_Jones) As we all know this silly season has been unprecedented in a flurry of twists and turns, not unlike a road course. Perhaps the most surprising move of the Silly season has been Erik Jones heading to the iconic 43 to drive for Richard Petty Motorsports. It certainly wasn’t a major shock when it was announced Jones wouldn’t be returning to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2021. When you’re teammates of 2 cup champions still in their primes and a 3 time Daytona 500 winner who has as many Cup wins as Bill Eliott it’s not hard to figure out who the replaceable driver is. Of course, we have to factor in the success of the man who is replacing Jones, Christopher Bell. Bell won the Truck Series Championship in 2017. He would go on to win 16 Xfinity series races with 46 top tens. He drove in the Cup Series this season for Levine Family Racing where he finished 20th in points, highlighted by 2 top 5’s and 7 top 10’s. None of this is meant as a knock on Jones. He’s had ...

Cindric/Team Penske announce multi-year contract extension. Cindric to race cup series in 2022 season.

Image
Team Penske announced on Thursday morning that they have reached an agreement to extend the contract for driver Austin Cindric. They did not specify on the terms of the agreement, but noted that this will be a multi-year opportunity that puts Cindric in a Cup Series car for the 2022 season. The team announced he will replace Matt Dibenedetto as driver of the Wood Bros. Racing #21 Ford after 2021. The 21 year old driver from Mooresville has 7 wins in 95 career Xfinity series starts and is currently competing for his first Xfinity Championship. Austin's father Tim is currently president of the Roger Penske owned racing team.  Comments provided to the press by Team Penske are as follows. “As we continue to position our team for future success, it is important to make sure Austin continues his development in the Xfinity Series with Team Penske,” said Roger Penske. “Austin has made great strides in recent years and he has become a consistent winner and a true championship contend...

Richmond Race Recap

Image
Saturday night short trackin' under the lights! The traditional late season Richmond night race was an interesting one. It was a race with three cautions, but zero for incident. The Cup series stars put on a display of clean, competitive short track racing.      Saturday's race was refreshing in my opinion. A race that had actual strategy was a nice change of pace.       Although one driver dominated the entire back half of the event, the racing product still sufficed. To me a good race has the best cars in the front, and if they get stuck in the back they can recover. Richmond had that.  I would rate the race a 7/10. It wasn't a race I'll remember forever, but a good race in the moment.     Stage one was won by local favorite Denny Hamlin, however after a pit road speeding penalty at the stage break, he had to restart in the back. Unfortunately, Hamlin never really recovered. His team strugg...

30 Second Read: Brad Keselowski wins after leading 192 of 400 laps at Richmond.

Image
( Photo Source : Twitter.com/Team_Penske ) Brad Keselowski's #2 Alliance Parts Team Penske Ford finished the evening in victory lane after leading nearly half of the scheduled 400 laps on Richmond's .75 mile oval. Pre-race favorite Martin Truex Jr. was not as fortunate, finishing 2.568 seconds behind in second place. Pole sitter Kevin Harvick finished 7th.  Every caution in Saturday night's event was predetermined. There was one competition caution, and a caution at the end of the first and second stage of the event. No wrecks or debris caused the race to break.   The win tonight is Brad's fourth of the 2020 season, second at Richmond Raceway, and 34th career win in the NASCAR Cup Series. With the win, his team has now advanced into the next round of NASCAR's playoffs. (UPDATE) - Post-race inspection is complete. The win is official. Top 5 :  1. Brad Keselowski 2. Martin Truex Jr. 3.
