NASCAR '21: Ignition only needs the NASCAR Cup Series

Image
NASCAR '21: Ignition promises to bring in the new era of NASCAR video games.  The game is the first installment to use the Unreal Engine for graphics and physics.  However, some fans have been a bit discouraged by the lack of NASCAR's feeder series, the Xfinity and Truck series.  Fans are concerned that the career mode and freshness of the game could become boring over time.  However, I believe that this step is EXACTLY what the NASCAR gaming franchise needed.  I have played NASCAR games ever since I was a kid and I have seen the franchise take on multiple forms.  I believe that the newest form of NASCAR games might be the best yet.  Here are a few reasons why NASCAR '21: Ignition only needs to have the NASCAR Cup Series: It's Worked Before NASCAR '21 is not the only game to only present the NASCAR Cup Series.  Furthermore, it would not be the first game to be successful without the feeder series included.  While NASCAR Heat Evolution, the mo...

Who should be NASCAR's next Cover Star?

Image
The release of NASCAR '21 gets closer by the day.  While no official release date has been confirmed, fans should expect a release within the next two months.  One topic that tends to spark some debate among the fanbase is the athlete who will grace the cover of the next game.  Being a sport's game cover athlete has long been an achievement for an athlete.  A cover athlete is typically viewed as someone who is the face of a sport, or at least a key player.  NASCAR's top stars, such as Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, and Tony Stewart, have all been on the cover of a game.  Even current champions such as Kevin Harvick, Chase Elliott, and Kyle Busch have been cover athletes of NASCAR games.  This leads me to the question: Who should be the next cover athlete? NASCAR '21 will be a new era for NASCAR gaming.  The cover athlete should represent this as well.  I believe there are two routes that Motorsport Games should go with the cover athlete.  ...

Thoughts on what a game will do to the IndyCar Series

Image
Announced last Thursday, Motorsport Games said they are in production of a game that will feature the famed cars, tracks, and drivers of the NTT IndyCar Series set to be released in 2023. This could arguably be one of the biggest off-track story lines set to come out of the series in 2021 as IndyCar is making the right steps to have a more successful future. But what does a game mean for IndyCar? What will the impact be for fans?         For people who don't know, this isn't the actual first time an IndyCar game will be released to fans. We have to go back all the way to 1989 with " Indianapolis 500: The Simulation"  released on MS-DOS. The game was created by Papyrus and distributed by EA Sports. It had four modes with varying different race lengths as you attempt to find glory by taking the victory at the 500. Various games since then have been released about the IndyCar Series all the way up to 2005, when th...

Opinion: How do we measure success for Jimmie Johnson in IndyCar?

Image
When the racing world found out that Jimmie Johnson, the seven-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion, was leaving NASCAR and moving to the NTT IndyCar Series, I think the emotions around motor sports fan bases in this country were shocked, intrigued, hopeful, and for most downright pessimistic. Jimmie Johnson, probably one of, if not the best driver to ever strap themselves into a stock car, was now moving on to a new challenge in America's highest level of open-wheel racing.     Given what we know about Johnson's body of work, his resume speaks for himself. He does not need to prove anything to anyone. He has accomplished more in the first five years of his NASCAR cup career than most drivers have done in ten or fifteen year careers. But the last three years of his NASCAR Cup career might leave a sour taste in some fans' mouths, and I don't blame them. When we saw his last win at Dover in 2017, we still thought that we were seeing Jimmie Johnson still being com...

The Crew: Netflix's new sitcom and what could it mean for the impact of NASCAR?

Image
( Freddie Stroma as Jake Martin and Kevin James as Kevin Gibson)      If Days of Thunder and Talladega Nights had a love child, this Netflix sitcom The Crew makes light of the life a NASCAR race team goes through through an entire season. There is currently only a single season on the streaming site which includes 10 episodes. The premiere season covers different topics within the sport and clever jokes that poke fun at different characters, most prominently lead characters Jake, Kevin and Amir. The show includes cameos from current NASCAR stars Ryan Blaney, Austin Dillon and sophomore Cole Custer. Plenty of pleasant banter between drivers and team members. While the storylines are fictional, the series is a reflection of the current culture in the NASCAR garage throughout a racing weekend.  When considering ...

Championship 4 Predictions -

Image
Logan - Chase Elliott  Zach - Denny Hamlin:   Eventually Denny Hamlin has got to win one right? Denny Hamlin is my pick because he has the best stats at Phoenix amongst this year's Championship Four. He has the best average finish, most Top 10s, and Top 5s, as well as 2 Wins tying with Joey Logano. I wouldn't be surprised if a non Championship Four driver (Harvick) wins this race, and if that's the case I will take Denny Hamlin and his stats at Phoenix in a one off championship race. Peyton - Denny Hamlin : It's no secret that Denny Hamlin has the best stats of the championship four at phoenix - BUT I want to talk about just pure luck. After an unfortunate end to last year's season, this man go his third Daytona 500 win this year and (along with Kevin Harvick) went on an absolute tear! All year long everyone said Kevin Harvick would win the championship because he's amazing at Phoenix, but luckily for Hamlin, Harvick didn't make the cut...leaving H...

Appealing Opinions - The best is yet to come for Kyle Busch.

Image
(Photo Source : Twitter.com/KyleBusch) Written by AJ Appeal Appealing Opinions Kyle Busch is the reigning NASCAR Cup Series Champion. He is one of only 16 drivers in the sport's history to have more than one cup title, and is the youngest on that list. Racing Refresh made a prediction at the start of the year that Kyle Busch (often known as 'Rowdy') would go winless in his 2020 campaign, and after 29 races he still has not found victory lane on a Sunday.  We often joke on our radio show about the curse that was started on-air by saying that he would not win, but the reality of the situation is that things aren't adding up for him and the #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota team. The season as a whole has been as up-and-down as the stock market and there are a million excuses as to why they are not in their usual form.  Kyle in his interviews often times will mention that he feels the current package that is run in the cup series prohibits passing for lead position. While that...

Loganity: Why RPM Deserves Better and Who Could Be Next To Drive For "The King"

Image
(Photo Source : Twitter.com/BubbaWallace)                 Last week Darrell Wallace Jr announced his decision to leave Richard Petty Motorsports at the conclusion of the 2020 season. It was a decision that many weren't surprised by but to an RPM fan like myself, it left a bitter feeling and made us question Bubba’s loyalty.  I know many of you will say It’s a business and there isn’t much room for loyalty and typically I’d agree. in this case, I feel it runs deeper. The 2020 season has been the most unique in NASCAR’s history. Along with the rest of the world, they have dealt with the COVID-19 pandemic. They’ve also dealt with trying to address racial inequality. While that has been a challenge for all sports, you could easily argue that NASCAR has had the toughest time balancing being more inclusive without alienating old school fans. At the center of that movement in NASCAR has been Wallace. He is the sport...
