 I remember listening to him in old video games and auto races of the 1990s. His voice flowed like the legs of a crimson red wine, and his vocabulary was as large as William Shakespeare. Bob Jenkins was a man that I wanted to be like. He had a genuine passion for the history of American motorsports. It was reported this evening that Jenkins passed away at the age of 73.  We had Bob scheduled to be interviewed on an upcoming episode of Racing Refresh not long ago. In January he and I chatted for some time as we prepped for our planned discussion on air. He was so amused that a young fan was interested in covering his career. It was an unfortunate illness that sidelined our next time together. He touched base with us shortly thereafter and emphasized that he would need to cancel. He knew at this time what we all know. High speeds, incredible action, all while staring danger in the face by going 230 miles an hour into turn one are some of the things that make the Indianapolis 500 one of the must watch races of the motorsports calander and the marque event of the NTT IndyCar Series season. Check out everything you need to know for the 105th Running of the Indianapolis 500.     Event History : Since 1911, fans have flocked to the hallowed grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway for " the greatest spectacle in racing", The Indianapolis 500. That first race in 1911 had an average speed of 74.59 MPH and took over six hours to complete. Since then, speeds have well excessed the 230-mile per hour mark, and a 500-mile race can be completed in a little under three hours. With the Indianapolis 500 this weekend it got the NASCAR fan in me thinking. Which NASCAR drivers would I like to see in the Indy 500. The quick answer is all of them, but I made a list of my top 5 picks and an honorable mention. Honorable Mention- Joey Logano... Joey Logano makes this list for three reasons. The first being his thrilling driving style, and aggressive nature. Logano for better or for worse is a true star of the show type of driver and NASCAR fans would watch that. The second reason is the fans perception of Logano. There’s only a few people who are truly in the middle with their opinions of Logano his polarizing nature would be a massive draw.                The month of May has officially kicked off with the 8th running of the GMR Grand Prix of Indianapolis. For the first time since 2014, a driver racing for Ed Carpenter Racing has won on a road course as the 2020 NTT IndyCar Series Rookie of the Year, Rinus Veekay, who took his first checkered flag of his young career in series.     The second biggest story of the day was  Romain Grosjean for Dale Conye with Rick Ware Racing, who took his first pole position of his IndyCar career. He lead a race high 44 of 85 laps. His day ended with an impressive 2nd place finish. Which is his first podium finish of his IndyCar career.              Last weekend, the NTT IndyCar Series did the Texas Two-Step, as the series held a doubleheader at Texas Motor Speedway over the weekend with the Genesys 300 and Xpel 375. Fast speeds, impressive rookie finishes, and a first time winner lead us into the Texas Race Analysis.        Saturday night was the first race of the weekend for the Genesys 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. With weather threating most of the day, practice was cut short and qualifying was canceled. Meaning both races would line-up based on the championship point standings. Alex Palou, who won the season opening race at Barber, started on pole position.       His lead didn't last long, as heavy favorite Scott Dixon took the lead and never really looked back as he led for 206 of the scheduled 212 laps of the event.        After a thrilling opening round of the NTT Indy Car Series at Barber Motorsports Park last Sunday, which saw Chip Ganassi driver Alex Palou take his first career IndyCar win. The series heads to the tight confines of the Streets of St. Petersburg for the first street course race of the 2021 season. Event History:  While there has been racing in St. Petersburg, Florida since 1985, the series had been racing on the current layout of the Grand Prix course since 2003, back before the CART/IndyCar merger in 2008. The first win was taken by Forsythe Racing and Paul Tracy. After a hiatus in 2004, the series returned in 2005, and the event was won by Dan Wheldon. There are five current drivers in the series who have won at St. Petersburg. Joesf Newgarden has won the last two times here in 2019 and 2020. A big crash, a first time winner, and strategy all played out on a Sunday afternoon for the NTT IndyCar Series Grand Prix of Alabama at Barber Motorsports Park.                                      What an interesting first race we had as the season opener. About 30 seconds into the race, Josef Newgarden got loose coming up out of turn four and clipped his right rear into the grass, which caused the biggest on-track incident of the day. The Schedule: The 2021 NTT IndyCar Series schedule looks a lot different this year, as many tracks that had their race postponed or taken off the schedule due in part to the COVID-19 pandemic are back in 2021. The season kicks off For the second year in a row, the first race of the season will not be held on the  Streets of St. Petersburg  due to the pandemic, but instead head to Barber Motorsports Park   on April 18th, returning to the schedule after being lost to the pandemic.   Aldo Andretti, brother to legendary racing driver Mario, and father of the late John Andretti passed away on December 30th. His death was the result of complications from the Covid-19 virus according to longtime motorsports writer Robin Miller.  Mario Andretti said: "Aldo Andretti, my loving twin brother, my partner in crime and my faithful best friend every day of my life was called to heaven last night. "Half of me went with him. There is no eloquence. I'm shaken to my core." Our team shares our sympathies to the Andretti family.
