The Fox and NBC telecasts had talented announcers shouting the name of Jimmie Johnson at the end of their broadcasts on a regular basis. Among Johnson's history in the Cup Series, one of his greatest feats were   his 83 wins, including 10 in the 2007 season.  In the first 908 starts, the #48 had only won 3 races, two with James Hylton and one with Bill Norton in 1951. Since then, #48 has won 84 times with Jimmie Johnson and now Alex Bowman. The storied legacy of the  48 did start  prior to Jimmie's on track success, though. Johnson's era started only 26 days after September 11th attacks on October 7th of 2001. 9/11 was dramatically and emotionally documented by every news, sports, and entertainment outlet 24 hours a day. Kyle Larson will become the driver of a Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet in 2021. This fills a vacancy left by 7 time Champion Jimmie Johnson. The successful dirt racer turned stock car driver is currently serving an indefinite suspension from NASCAR and a termination from Chip Ganassi Racing after the use of a racial slur during a broadcasted video game event earlier this year. The team announced today that they will transition the number 88 to number 5 moving forward.  [It was announced in October that Alex Bowman will officially replace Jimmie Johnson, driver of the #48 for the last 19 seasons at Hendrick beginning in 2021. Jimmie was said to have a large influence in the successor to the famed #48.   CONCORD, N.C.   --  Hendrick Motorsports has named Rudy Fugle as the crew chief for William Byron and the No. 24 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE team for the 2021 NASCAR Cup Series season. He will join the organization in mid-November. The 36-year-old Fugle is one of the most successful crew chiefs at the NASCAR national series level. He has won two driver championships and five owner titles in the Gander RV and Outdoors Truck Series. As a crew chief for Kyle Busch Motorsports since 2013, he has recorded 28 truck victories, which tie him for the second-most in series history. Fugle will replace current No. 24 crew chief Chad Knaus,  who was recently named Hendrick Motorsports’ vice president of competition  effective at the completion of the 2020 racing season. “We’re pleased to welcome Rudy,” said Jeff Andrews, general manager of Hendrick Motorsports. “His teams have consistently performed at a championship level for many years. Race car driver Kyle Larson has been approved by NASCAR to return to sanctioned events beginning on January 1st, 2021. It was reported last week that Larson had applied for reinstatement after completing a mandatory sensitivity training in response to the usage of a racial slur in a virtual event earlier this year. Larson was serving an indefinite suspension from NASCAR and termination from his then employer Chip Ganassi Racing. There is much speculation as to which team Larson will race for in 2021, with most rumours pointing at Hendrick Motorsports. This news was first announced by Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass. NASCAR provided the  below comment earlier today.

  The winningest crew chief of the modern era will no longer be on top of a pit-box beginning with the 2021 season. He received a promotion to an executive position with Hendrick Motorsports as Vice President of Competition. He will oversee all crew chiefs , pit chiefs, engineering teams , fabrication teams , assembly , and competition staff. No announcement has been made in regards to who will replace Knaus as the leader of the #24 Chevrolet team. In his career as a NASCAR Cup Series Crew Chief , Knaus has won 82 races , 7 cup series championships (all with Jimmie Johnson) , and his drivers have made the playoffs every year since the original playoff 'chase' format back in 2004. 

  Several media outlets are reporting that Hendrick Motorsports has been penalized a $00k and docked a total of 10 of their allotted hours for win tunnel testing in the 2021 season after exceeding their allowance of 70 hours in 2020 season. Per Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports, the Chevrolet power-house team reported their own overage which was said to be my just minutes over 70 hours in total. No championship points or suspensions were announced by NASCAR in regards to this. Hendrick Motorsports currently has the drivers of Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman in the 2020 championship playoffs; both drivers advanced into the round of 12 after last week's race at Bristol.
