Brad Keselowski entered the playoff media availability with his trademark calm demeanor and a smile. His face was low, and he was sitting back comfortably in his chair with Apple Airpods in his ears as members of NASCAR's media interviewed him about his playoff chances.  He was confident in his season and remained loyal to Team Penske. Despite having only one win combined between himself and previous cup champion and teammate Joey Logano in 2021, their younger teammate Ryan Blaney has been a three time winner this season. Other events stand out in our hearts and we talk about them every chance we get. This year's running of the 'Great American Race' is a story that we will always remember.  Expect to see videos of McDowell cheering with the fans at the start finish line, and the wild last lap of the 2021 Daytona 500 forever.  He's done it. It took him a long time, but Michael McDowell has won at NASCAR's greatest stage. While the race itself is being labeled as an underdog win, a small amount of research is all it takes to realize that the pieces have been there for the #34 team to get this win for some time now.  Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports broke the news this morning that NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Austin Cindric is expected to attempt to qualify for the 2021 Daytona 500 under the Team Penske banner. According to the announcement, the car will be numbered 33 and is likely to include additional races for the young driver from Columbus, Ohio. It was announced earlier this year that Cindric would take over for Matt Dibenedetto in the #21 Ford Mustang in 2022 season as a full-time rookie.  No details on sponsorship were available at the time of the post. Miles Stanley will be the crew chief.

  The GoFas Racing Team operated by Archie St. Hilaire has announced that they will be transitioning into a part-time effort beginning with the 2021 season. They have competed full-time for from 2014 to 2020 in NASCAR's premiere series.  Team Owner Hilaire provided this statement regarding the change.  It was reported this morning by Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass that Stewart-Haas Racing has signed driver Chase Briscoe to replace Clint Bowyer in their #14 Ford Mustang beginning in 2021. Bowyer announced his retirement from NASCAR Cup Series competition last week and will assume a role with Fox Sports form the commentating booth in 2021. Briscoe, the 25 year old from Mitchell, Indiana is currently qualified for the round of 4 championship event in NASCAR's Xfinity Series at Phoenix next month and has a record of 9 wins this season. He has yet to make his Cup Series debut.  The primary funding on this agreement will come form his current Xfinity sponsor Highpoint. Terms of the deal have not been announced as of the time of this post. 

It was elimination Saturday for the NASCAR Xfinity Series.  As if that pressure wasn't high enough, drivers had to take on the Charlotte Roval, a track that had only seen Xfinity competition twice prior to this event.  With all the playoff drama, one would assume it would be the primary story of the afternoon.  However, mother nature proved to be the driving factor of Saturday's race.  It was a race full of twists, turns, slipping, and sliding.  At the end of the day, eight drivers move on with hope that they will hoist the championship trophy in Phoenix.  For four others, their championship hopes were dashed.  The race at the Roval started as calmly as it possibly could've, given the circumstances.  Prior to the race, NASCAR had stated that the track was in "dry" conditions.  However, NASCAR could deem the track "wet" at any point in the race if they felt led to do so.  Teams had 2 sets of rain tires, but it was the crew chief's call wh...

  Perhaps NASCAR's funniest man, Clint Bowyer announced yesterday in a gratuitous letter to the motorsports industry his intentions to formally retire from NASCAR Cup Series racing at the end of the 2020 season. In the letter, Bowyer mentioned every car owner and major sponsor that he has raced for in the Cup Series, and mentioned his unique relationship with all three major car manufacturers.  Clint's season in the #14 Ford for Stewart-Haas Racing will be fulfilled before the seat becomes vacant for the 2021 season. Most industry rumours are saying that Chase Briscoe's relationship with both Ford and Strewart-Haas Racing make him the most likely candidate for that seat.  Bowyer, the 41-year-old from Emporia Kansas won the 2008 Xfinity Series Championship with Richard Childress racing and has won 10 career cup races in 536 starts.   After successfully competing to match his best career finish of second place for two consecutive weeks (Talladega finish was penalized), Matt Dibenedetto has announced with Wood Bros. Racing team a 1-year and final contract extension that will have him behind the wheel of the famed #21 Ford Mustang in 2021.  Team Penske manages the driver rotation for the Wood Bros. entry and was expected to have driver Austin Cindric in the #21 car for 2021 season, but Sports Business Journal's Adam Stern has reported that a last minute decision was changed to have Dibenedetto in the car instead.  It is unclear what 2022 and beyond hold for the the 29 year old from Grass Valley, California. His performance in each car he has raced has surpassed the expectations of the team, but he is still winless in a combined 276 Cup and Xfinity races.   Team Penske announced on Thursday morning that they have reached an agreement to extend the contract for driver Austin Cindric. They did not specify on the terms of the agreement, but noted that this will be a multi-year opportunity that puts Cindric in a Cup Series car for the 2022 season. The team announced he will replace Matt Dibenedetto as driver of the Wood Bros. Racing #21 Ford after 2021. The 21 year old driver from Mooresville has 7 wins in 95 career Xfinity series starts and is currently competing for his first Xfinity Championship.   Ford Racing's rising star Hailie Deegan will make her next step in the ranks of the NASCAR at Kansas Speedway on October 17th. She will be participating in her first NASCAR Truck Series event on the 1.5 mile oval.  Deegan is the daughter of motorsport and marketing legend Brian Deegan and has been involved in stock car racing since 2017. She won 3 times in 42 starts in the then regional 'K+N' Tour in 2018 and 2019, and has 5 top-5 finishes in 25 career starts in the Arca Menard Series.  The 19 year old from Temecula California will drive the No. 17 Ford for DGR-Crosley as part of her next step towards driving in NASCAR's Cup Series via the Ford Driver Development program. 

Last Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoffs began with a trip to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  This race was less memorable as a whole due to the lack of action.  Vegas holds as the precursor race to the wild cards of Talladega and the Charlotte Roval.  The Xfinity's best took the track and Chase Briscoe proved, once again, why he should be considered the championship favorite.   In Stage 1, Briscoe pulled out to an early lead over fellow Ford driver, Austin Cindric.  This didn't last long, however, as on lap 9 the #47 of Kyle Weatherman spun out on the front stretch due to a loss of steering.  This caution allowed the cars to line back up, and on the restart, Briscoe got jumped by Cindric, Chastain, and Gragson.  Briscoe was placed back in 4th until another caution came out on lap 19 for Austin Hill, winner of the Truck race the night before.  After another restart, Briscoe found himself back in 7th at one point, but fought his way back t...

    Saturday night was a throwback of sorts, a vintage-feeling Bristol Night Race that was dominated by Kevin Harvick. The bottom line returned to fame as the bump and run was the best method for passing, especially the first 400 laps of this race. Overall an underwhelming Bristol race considering modern day multi-grooved Bristol barely showed up, and the bump and run being a forgotten art, but the finish really saved this race.           Chase Elliott won stage one, but Kyle Busch was in hot pursuit after he started in the back for failing pre race inspection. Stage one was fairly clean except for contact between Jimmie Johnson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. while they were trying to pass a lapped car. Stage one felt like the calm  before the storm. Harvick led just under half of the 500 miles (226) while Busch led 159. Pole sitter Brad Keselowski led 82 laps and finished 34th after losing power steering and going several laps down.  There were five cautions for 50 laps. 2 Cautions for stage breaks and 3 for on-track incident. This win is Kevin Harvick's 9th win of the 2020 season, second at Bristol Motor Speedway, and 58th total.  Saturday night's event also happened to be the first elimination race of the playoffs, where they moved from 16 playoff drivers to 12 playoff drivers. Pre-race favorite Martin Truex Jr. was not as fortunate, finishing 2.568 seconds behind in second place. Pole sitter Kevin Harvick finished 7th.  Every caution in Saturday night's event was predetermined. There was one competition caution, and a caution at the end of the first and second stage of the event. No wrecks or debris caused the race to break.   The win tonight is Brad's fourth of the 2020 season, second at Richmond Raceway, and 34th career win in the NASCAR Cup Series.
