StatChat - NASCAR Cup Series @ Charlotte Roval

The NASCAR Cup Series returns to Charlotte Motor Speedway to run the Roval circuit this weekend.  The Roval is 2.28 miles long, has 17 turns, and utilises both the infield and parts of the oval.  The Roval only started hosting NASCAR races in 2018.   This weekend’s race is called the “Bank of America ROVAL 400,” and is set to be 109 laps (252.88 miles).  Stage breaks will occur at 25 – 50 – 109, with a competition caution at lap 10.  The fuel window is approximately 32-35 laps.   NASCAR has run 10,870.57 miles so far this year.  Denny Hamlin has completed 99.91% of them, the most of any driver.   Top 5 Career Average Finishers at the Roval: Chase Elliott 2.67 over 3 races Ryan Blaney 4.67 over 3 races Alex Bowman 4.67 over 3 races Joey Logano 7.33 over 3 races Kevin Harvick 7.67 over 3 races   Bottom 5 Career Average Finishers at the Roval: ...

"It's a Very Unforgiving Place" - Chase Elliott Discusses the Charlotte Roval

This weekend, the Cup Series playoffs will continue at the Charlotte Roval.  It is the final race of the Round of 12, meaning four drivers will be eliminated from the Cup Series playoffs.  Chase Elliott is one of the favorites to win, having already won the last two races on the road course.    Elliott is known for his road course prowess.  His average finish at Cup road courses is the best in the series, and it’s not even close.  His 5.72 is far beyond a distant 2nd-placed Kurt Busch (12.09).  While the sample size is small at the Charlotte Roval (there have only been 3 prior races there), it seems to be a place that Elliott truly shines.    When asked why the Roval seemed to suit him so well, Elliott said, “We’ve had a good road course package for the last few years.  For whatever reason we kind of hit on a good package at Charlotte.  They’re all similar, but we tweak things here and there and landed in...
