Redemption at Talladega - Darrell 'Bubba' Wallace Jr. Wins!

Image
Become a Patron! After years of ups and down for Darrell Wallace Jr., a dominating drive at the end of the second stage of NASCAR's Talladega 500 resulted in a historic moment. For only the second time in history, a black man has won at NASCAR's top level. Wallace, who has dealt with an unrequested responsibility of leading NASCAR's diversity movement, has competed in the sport since 2017. He was winless in his first 142 career cup starts, but showed underlying talent in lower divisions. In both NASCAR's Truck Series and Regional K/N East Touring series, he had a previous total of 6 wins each.  While today's event ended in rain, speed and dominance at the largest tracks in the sport are not new for the Mobile Alabama native. He has led in 4 consecutive events at Talladega and was a matter of feet away from winning the 2018 Daytona 500.  Wallace's team, newly found 23Xi (Pronounced Twenty-Three Eleven) Racing is co-owned by NASCAR elite Denny Hamlin and NBA Hall-...

There’s a different layer of excitement when it comes to the final 10 races of every NASCAR season; that is when the championship truly is on the line. Sixteen drivers are chasing a title and looking to live forever in the annals of NASCAR history. However, every year I can’t help but think “What are the non-playoff drivers chasing?” This article talks about 5 non-playoff storylines you should have your eye on. (Photo Source : Twitter.com/QuakerState) 1. Can Matt DiBenedetto get the 100th win for Wood Brothers Racing?   Let’s be honest, both team and driver need a win. The man affectionately known as Matty D is beloved by fans as an underdog. After Levine Family Racing announced it was replacing DiBenedetto with Christopher Bell in 2020 the narrative that Matt DiBenedetto is fighting for his Cup career became water co...

44 Days 'Til Daytona - Today's Featured Driver: Bubba Wallace

In case you missed it , StatChat is counting down the days ‘til the 2021 Daytona 500.  Every two days, we will have a new article featuring one of the Top 30 Drivers of 2020.    22 nd Place – Bubba Wallace – 597 pts   By the Numbers:   21.08 2020 Average Finish – Bubba Wallace, in his 3 rd full-time Cup Series season, had the best average finish of his career.  While only 3 seasons is a fairly small sample size, it was a significant difference (2.86 positions) from even his 2 nd best year.   -332 Pass Differential – Ranking worst out of all drivers in 2020, Wallace was passed 332 more times than he passed other drivers. Since Pass Differential only measures passes under green flags, it may be a flawed statistic.  However, when the 2 nd worst Pass Differential, belonging to Quin Houff, is 108 positions better (-244), it certainly doesn’t show well for Bubba.   1 st Place Daytona Average Finish – Bubba Wallace, with ...
